As part of the 2020 Edmonton Intangible Cultural Heritage Children's Carnival, we had the honor of inviting Master Liu Changwei, a renowned inheritor of Sichuan Opera Face-Changing, to Alberta for a spectacular cultural celebration with the local Chinese community.
在2020年"非遗走进爱城儿童嘉年华"的第二场活动中，我们特别邀请到了中国川剧变脸非遗传承人刘昌伟先生来到阿尔伯塔省，与本地华裔乡亲共度一场精彩纷呈的文化盛宴。
At the event, Master Liu delivered a breathtaking Sichuan Opera Face-Changing performance, mesmerizing the audience with his lightning-fast mask transformations. The crowd erupted in applause, captivated by the magic of this ancient art.

He later posed for a group photo with Alberta’s former senior minister, Mr. Luan Jinsheng, and representatives of the organizing committee, commemorating this extraordinary cultural exchange.

In a unique highlight of the event, Master Liu engaged in a friendly "Tea & Sword" exchange with Olympic fencing champion Lüan Jujie. Their conversation blended the elegance of Chinese tea culture with the spirit of martial arts, symbolizing the fusion of tradition and modern sportsmanship.
此外，刘昌伟先生还与奥运击剑冠军栾菊杰女士展开了一场别开生面的“江湖（壶）论剑”，在茶道与剑道的碰撞中，探讨文化传承的魅力。
The carnival not only showcased traditional Chinese arts but also embraced Canadian culture. Ryan from Edmonton hosted a fun and educational hockey knowledge session, allowing participants to experience Canada’s national sport firsthand. In a lighthearted twist, Master Liu and volunteer Ryan “swapped roles”, with Ryan attempting face-changing techniques while Master Liu got a taste of hockey, creating a fun and unforgettable cross-cultural moment。
本次嘉年华不仅展示了中国传统文化，也融入了加拿大本地特色。来自埃德蒙顿的Ryan先生为大家带来了一场别开生面的冰球知识讲座与体验活动，让参与者更深入了解加拿大的国民运动。更有趣的是，刘昌伟大师与义工Ryan “互换角色”，一边学习变脸技艺，一边体验冰球运动，在欢声笑语中促成了一场跨文化的奇妙碰撞。
The grand finale took place at Lake Louise in Banff National Park, where Master Liu stunned tourists with an impromptu Sichuan Opera Face-Changing performance against the breathtaking backdrop of snowy mountains and crystal-clear waters. His artistry drew an amazed crowd, showcasing the enchanting appeal of Chinese heritage on an international stage.
嘉年华的最后一站，团队来到班夫国家公园的露易丝湖，为游客们献上一场震撼的川剧变脸快闪表演。在皑皑雪山与碧蓝湖水的映衬下，刘昌伟大师的精湛技艺吸引了无数游客驻足观看，惊叹于中国非遗文化的魅力。
